Road Trip Wednesday is a "Blog Carnival," where YA Highway's contributors and followers post a weekly writing- or reading-related question and answer it on our blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.
This week's topic: give a book character a Christmas gift!
My first ideas on this topic were gifts for some of the characters from Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse books (Eric Northman, Bill Compton, Quinn, etc) but those gifts would land me squarely on the NAUGHTY list. It would be a heck of a way to end the year, and deliciously naughty indeed.
So my more G-rated answer would be to give an assortment of colorful flower bulbs to Mary from The Secret Garden. I would give her a few that were forced into bloom early so she could enjoy them now, but the rest I would just leave as a surprise. She wouldn't have any idea what kind they were until the spring, when they sent up shoots and flowered. Ooo, and a kitten too. In fact, kittens all around!
I reread The Secret Garden recently on my Kindle, so that explains why I thought of young Mary.

Ooooh, Eric Northman! *swoon*
I think it's a sign that I can't. Let. Go. of SPITIFIRE quite yet, because the first character I thought to give something to was Mattie. I think I'd give her one of those novelty wines with the huge scorpions in the bottles. She'd think it was cool. I'd also get her a Texas hoodie, because she seriously burnt her last one accidentally.
Also, the word verification for this comment is megasheb, which makes me laugh.
I was really tempted to give a gift to my MC, but I decided to go with one that nearly everyone would know who I was talking about.
And Eric is hot, both in book form and TV form--and I don't even usually find blondes attractive!
Heh, I'd like to hear the Sookie Stackhouse gifts. But your gift to Mary was sweet. Thanks for reminding me of that great character.
The Secret Garden was one of my favourites as a kid. Kittens and surprise flowers = loveliness.
I have to admit, I'm really curious about the Sookie Stackhouse gifts ;-)
Hmmm...I think I would gift a beautiful music box to Cathy from Flowers in the Attic. It would be a warm, delicate looking wood shaped like a trunk, but much smaller with a gold or brass lock on the front. And when she opens it up, a tiny ballerina would begin to spin to Swan Lake or The Nutcracker. It would be lined in soft pink velvet with an oval shaped mirror behind the ballerina. Perhaps there would be delicate looking flowers hand painted on the outside of the music box.
Welcome, Tracy! I've never actually read Flowers in the Attic. We used to sell it like crazy at the bookstore, but I never got around to it. The music box sounds nice, though, thanks for playing!
