My local newspaper, The Mountain Democrat, interviewed me and featured Capturing The Castle on May 26th:

I had a great time talking to everyone about Preston Castle and my book! Plus, 30% of the proceeds from that day went directly to the Preston Castle Foundation, and they'll be carrying it in the gift shop starting next week.

Now, on to finishing the editing for the Faerie Crossed novels so they can also hit the bookshelves!

If you'd like to see it for yourself, I'll be doing a signing at the Castle on May 27th, from 10-1. 30% of all sales that day will go the the Preston Castle Foundation, and they'll be open for tours, so it's a great way to explore Preston Castle and leave with a signed keepsake. New book coming May 2017!

In case anyone is wondering what I've been working on lately, I've been getting a collection of my photographs ready to print. I'll be releasing it in May, but you can preorder through my IndieGoGo campaign at https://igg.me/at/Capturing-The-Castle through April 19. Then it will hit stores (through Ingram distribution) starting May 16. I'm particularly proud of this one!

Procrastination and Creativity

I turned on a TED Radio Hour podcast while I was chopping onions to freeze, and found this one on how procrastination (or more precisely, leaving things unfinished so your brain is still working on them at some level) works to boost creativity. It struck me how this particularly applies to writing, and how putting your project away for a bit gives you a new perspective when you come back. And I'm not talking about just the ability to see errors and typos that you passed by before, but on a deeper, story-building level.

For me, continuing to think about a project while not actively working on it is how I come up with dimension and layers to both characters and plot. It's a way for me to set aside those obvious, linear plot devices and come up with an unexpected twist, or see relationship dynamics between characters that I hadn't even known were there.
