One of the benefits I've gotten from joining the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators is connecting with four other members for a YA critique group. We meet every few weeks and are focusing on novel-length works. It's helped get me out of the comfort zone that developed with my book, and gave me that extra little push.
In fact, I wrote an article about our group for the local SCBWI chapter's June newsletter, The Acorn. You'll find it on page 4.

Great article. I agree that finding a good critique group is so, so important for a writer. Sadly, the SCBWI groups in my area seem to be full. :(
My writers' group just did an online chat with a class about the merits of a good writers/critique group. I don't think people understand how helpful they can be
I have been to a few groups that seemed to talk a lot about writing ideas but never get around to putting things on paper. Or else they are just a lovefest. We all need a cheer squad, but to truly progress as a writer I believe that we also need critical eyes.
